World Cup 2010

Whether you call it soccer or futbol, you have to admit the game is the most beautiful game on the planet and this is its most beautiful stage. I have to admit I have been waiting on this for a long time. Four years to be exact and it was well worth the wait. From the first kickoff of the first game to the final whistle of the last, I sat and watched mostly all of it. Honestly as bad as it may seem I probably only missed 2 games. Some days this meant waking up at like 5-6am, cancelling plans to do stuff with friends or telling my girlfriend sorry but the games on and we gotta be home or cant go anywhere. I've got a confession to make, I have always been a soccer fan most of my life but never like it has been these last 6-7 years. It all started with FIFA for Playstation 2. Me, Bill, Chris, Jeff and cousin Thomas all picked countrys and started competing every Sunday after dinner at Tommy and Ebys. We had country flags on little pedistools and a old champagne bucket we turned into our trophy cup. I think at this point we were all hooked. Me inparticular i started watching it on TV ordering special cable channels and DVRing the games. I followed very closely my favorite sides club level it was Barcelona country level it was Brazil. From this point on i have to admit soccer has by far takin over as my favorite sport. Its far more exciting than what the occasional watcher thinks. Its technical and tough but most of all very respectful. Ya you might get the cheap shots and the fake injuries or people flopping more than Paul Pierce in the NBA finals but all and all it takes tramindous skill. They dont play every other day like MLB or NBA but they also hustle the whole time they play unlike the 2 previous mentioned sports. Seeing guys like Messi or Ronaldinho dribble past a defender to score or set up a insane pass is far more enjoyable than watching peyton manning throw another TD to Reggie Wayne. Or seeing Kobe or Bron cross over a half assed effort by a defender and dunking it. Hell id even go as far as to say its better than seeing Tiger hit that unbeleivable shot at Augusta or better than 45 (Michael Jordan) hit that game winning shot to win the title. Ya wanna know why becasue stuff like that happens every game in a game of Series A soccer. There are some of the most talented athletes in the world playing this game. Whether its little Messi with his crazy dribbling or shot ablility or the big Swede Ibra pulling off some crazy acrobatic shot a guy thats 5' 6" shouldnt be able to make. It may be Ronaldo with his fancey fakes and driblling drilling a free kick from 40 yards and leaving the world stunned. It may be Xavi sending a pass in, in such a tight spot you wonder how he did it.
World Cup 2010 was awesome, the setting alone was a nice change. This was the first World Cup on the continent of Africa and they were awesome spectators. From the nice outfits and festive celebration to what some people hated but i loved, the vuvuzelas.I mean I thought the NFL had very loyal fans but world soccer makes the Raider nation, the dog pound in Cleveland and the loudest staium in the league (Arrowhead) look like a bunch of intermurals. I mean these fans come from far and wide dressed to the hilt. They have huge banners and start fires in the stands. They throw streamers onto the field and jump up and down to make the whole stadium shake. The world cup was no exception. Whether rooting for Bafana Bafana, Spain, Brazil, U.S.A. or little ole Parguay or Uraguay all these people come for the love of their squad. When Tshabalala scored the opening goal it sounded like all of Africa roared. or what about the USA coming back in not 1 but 2 games down. Those come backs are something Brett Favre couldnt of even mustard up. Those come backs got the rest of the nation inspired to hopefully watch this beautiful game more. The US has a good chance at getting either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup and Arrowhead stadium to be one of the venues. With the enthusiasm shown for this cup I think it will be perfect timing for the Cup to come back to the US. In 1994 we hosted it and it was the biggest World Cup to date. If this game is going to take ahold in this country though we need better players nationally. Im not talking about bringing big name stars from Europe to play in the MLS im tlaking about our national team. Landon, Dempsey and Tim Howard wont be around forever. We are so far from a complete team its almost a joke. Lets face it we got lucky to make it as far as we did.I understand it was still exciting and I am proud we made it that far, but honestly look at the other countrys their skill level is far superior to ours.Im still impressed with the US side to make as much noise as they made in this World Cup. One day we will get on the level of the rest of the world. All and all very exciting to watch that much soccer I just wish we didnt have to wait as long for the next one. With that said Good job Spain and sorry it took me forever to post this blog. I just couldn't get in the mood.

Meet Hank The Dog

About a month ago me and Steph brought home Hank. He is a beagle mix and is about 3 months old now. He is a great dog. He is almost potty trained and loves to play. I mean of course he eats what isn't food, pees where he shouldn't but hes a puppy and that's what they do. Hank loves to sleep and if hes sleepin you better don't touch him. He makes a crazy grunt sound if u disturb his sleep. I think Steph rubbed off on him with the sleep. He goes to bed with us every night since we've had him. He had a few accidents in the beginning but so far since hes been good ( knock on wood).

i gotta give it to Steph Hank wouldn't have been my choice in a dog but i really enjoy him. He loves to play his favorite toy is his money. Oddly enough this is the only toy he doesn't destroy. Although he does love a empty water bottle i always find him stealing one outta the recycle bin. When hank isn't sleeping or playin usually hes sunbathing. Every morning we wake up and I open the blinds to the patio and he lays and looks outside. Usually he has a toy or food there with him.

Hank has really done a good job so far potty training. We got him one of those Potty patches from the infomercial. It does work for the most part. The only issue is user error. Either Hank thinks his wiener is huge or he just doesn't understand that his whole body needs to be on it. Cause he gets his front paws on it then pees right next to it. All and all Hank is all we could ask for in a good dog. I never thought of adopting a dog but he changed my mind. I'm glad we have Hank couldn't ask for anything more in a dog.

Buffalo Chicken Calzone with Blue Cheese Dip

Buffalo Chicken Calzone with Blue Cheese Dip

Ingredients

For calzone:

Cooking spray
2 reserved chicken breast halves, diced, about 2 cups
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
2/3 cup reserved tomato sauce
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 pound fresh or frozen pizza or bread dough, thawed according to package directions
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
For dip:

1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup blue cheese, crumbled
2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, combine chicken, cheese, tomato sauce, liquid smoke, and hot sauce. Mix well and set aside.

Roll dough out, using a rolling pin, to a 12-inch circle. Spread chicken mixture over half of circle, to within 1-inch of the edge. Fold over untopped side so that it meets the other side, forming a half moon. Pinch the edges together to seal.

Transfer calzone to prepared baking sheet and brush the top with olive oil. Sprinkle the top with Parmesan. Using a sharp knife, make a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape during cooking. Bake 15 minutes, until puffed up and golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

For dip:

While the calzone is baking, in a small bowl, combine sour cream, blue cheese and chives.

Serve calzone sliced with sour cream dip on the side

Eldrick " TIGER" Woods

I would like to start this with a disclaimer: I do not support or condone what Tiger Woods did.

Yeah yeah yeah HE CHEATED! A lot! Who cares? I don't and neither should you. I enjoyed watching Tiger kick ass and take names on the golf course. We aren't buddies, pals or homeboys. He is not my Idol, he is a guy that gets paid to entertain me. He doesn't owe me or you or anyone but his wife and family an apology. I have sat back and waited for this article to be written so I wouldn't jump the gun. I'm glad I did that because now heeeeessss baaaaaaaaaaccccckkkk. He is coming back to the biggest stage in golf, Augusta National home of the Masters. People are looking at this issue the complete wrong way. Tiger didn't kill dogs, kill his wife, hit someone and kill them drunk driving or shoot himself in the leg in a night club. He cheated on his wife and that is between them, not the world. I'm tired of hearing how all these kids looked up to him and how much he meant to them. Kids need real idols and role models not a sports star or a musician. Its fine for them to look up and enjoy watching them. However if your feelings get hurt because they did something " out of their character". Guess what 99.9% of us are going to make a mistake we wish we could take back and when that time comes we are going to want that same forgiveness.Cause guess what looking up to a athlete or musician will do nothing more than leave you disappointed in the end. Its almost as bad as putting all your trust in the government right now ( that's a whole nother blog). Listen none of what he did was right but it wasn't the end of the world. All this just shows me that guess what the man i once thought was a model human being and mistake free, simply isn't hes human after all.The great mighty Tiger Woods is just like me and you except he has a lot of money and can beat us in golf. I just cant wait to see what people are going to say WHEN not IF, Tiger goes Tiger and destroys the field at Augusta. You gotta be kidding me if yup think for one minute this guy isn't going to come out playin anything other than spectacular golf. The guys has drive and determination Ive never seen before. If anybody can do this its going to be him .Hes already playing practice rounds at Augusta, sharpening his skills in Amen Corner ( 11,12 and 13 holes). The only thing he has struggled with there before if short game, if that gets goin look out. It will be epic, yet another amazing tiger woods story to talk about. Tiger Woods is the most dominant sports star ever. Yes I said it EVER, not even 45 (Michael Jordan) Kobe, Bo, Elway,Favre, Aaron,Yaz or any other wonderful athlete can compare to him. What he has done in such a short time, picking and choosing when he plays. He doesn't play every week. Hell Tiger doesn't play more than prolly 10 tourneys all season. But guess what he has held down the number one golfer spot for 250 straight weeks and 592 weeks total in his career. He has 71 wins 3rd all time behind Nicklaus and Snead. He has 14 majors 2nd all time behind the Golden Bear. Tiger Woods is only 32 years old. He has got 10 to 15 years left on the PGA tour. I don't know about you but i wanna be able to see him play for a long time. His career will go down in history and yeah people will prolly always bring up the cheating scandal of 2009. But lets be real for a minute and remember he didn't cheat at the game he didn't take hgh or steroids. We are condiming this man for his personal life. A personal life none of us are apart of. So lets get one thing clear Tiger Woods the golfer is amazing that's the man we all know Tiger the golfer not Eldrick Woods the son, husband and father. So public sit back shut up dont judge people and enjoy Tiger Woods the 9th wonder of the world.

Food for thought

-Ingredients-

- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, trimmed

- 1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala , (see Tip), divided

- 1 cup shredded romaine lettuce

- 2 small or 1 large tomato, sliced

Place the chicken on the grill rack or prepared pan and cook until no longer pink in the center and an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part registers 165°F, 4 to 8 minutes per side, depending on the size of the breast. Transfer the chicken to a clean cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, combine cucumber, yogurt, cilantro (or mint), lemon juice, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon garam masala and 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper in a small bowl. Thinly slice the chicken. Split open the warm pitas and fill with the chicken, yogurt sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion.

-Tips & Notes-

Make Ahead Tip: Prepare through Step 2. Refrigerate the chicken in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Tips: Garam masala is a blend of spices used in Indian cooking. It is available in the spice section of most supermarkets.
To oil a grill rack, oil a folded paper towel, hold it with tongs and rub it over the rack. (Do not use cooking spray on a hot grill.)

Pro Bowl

I gotta say i kinda like the Pro Bowl before super bowl week. It gives us fans a break and the players i think. It helps us not hear how good Peyton and Drew are, or look at everything under a microscope. To me that just gets boring. This probowl gives fans somethin in between and helps the nfl still make the game kinda meaningful. I mean i think about it having it afterwards people think damn Super Bowl is over that must mean the season is over. With this scenerio you dont over look the pro bowl. Yeah so what some players cant play but this also gives extra ayers a chance.

I WISH I WAS A WEATHER MAN

<---------(this is alot of snow)
So lemme tell ya how i love weather men and woman in Kansas City. Since last week all they've talked about is how much snow we will get today and yesterday. I woke up this morning like, OK get ready for 6-10 inches of snow I'm gonna have to leave early for work. Little to my surprise I wake up to rain and it being 37 degrees. Finally around 7 o'clock the rain turned to ice and ice into snow. The kicker is that 1-10 inches of snow we were supposed to get turned into about 1/2 an inch. I just don't get how weather people keep a job. If anyone did their job as bad as these people did we would all be fired. The bad NEWS is, is that Kansas City has had the same weather men for years. Brian Busby, Joe Lauria, Mike Thompson, Gary Lesaic and now that some what hot chick Katie Horner. I mean these people have been here since I was born you'd think they have some instinct on when to call a storms bluff and not pump our head fulla shit. I mean they get this in our brains that its gonna be bad and seldom ever turns in that way. I am no meteorologist but come on can it be that hard? This is whats gonna happen one day: They are gonna say OK 6-500 inches of snow in the next 3 days everybody be ready. We are all gonna be like yeah right Weather dude I aint fallin for this one again. Then we will go about our day doing god knows what, then BOOOOOM 374 inches of snow fall and we are stuck stranded and like my dad used to say up shit creek without a paddle. I just wanna say weather is not a game and there has to be better forecasting available. These people suck. OK im off my soap box, but like they say here in Kansas if ya don't like the weather now wait 5 minutes and it'll change.
